SEAMAAC's mission is to have every Southeast Asian refugee in the Philadelphia area successfully and happily integrated into American life. SEAMAAC supports, in every way possible, each person's efforts to become a productive, successful, useful, focused person in his/her new home and new life in America.
Description:
SEAMAAC currently maintains programs and services in the following areas: employment and job training; education and enrichment for children, youth, and adults; senior services; health programs, including pre and post-natal education and counseling, Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS outreach, prevention and education; and technical assistance to the Mutual Assistance Associations (The Cambodian, Chinese, Hmong, Lao, and Vietnamese Organization.) Its ethnically varied staff delivers culturally sensitive and language appropriate services to its diverse client base.
History:
The Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition, Inc. (SEAMAAC), founded in 1984, is a United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania member agency mainly serving the Cambodian, Ethnic Chinese, Hmong, Laotian and Vietnamese immigrant communities in the greater Philadelphia area. SEAMAAC has grown steadily from a staff of 2 to a staff of 35. Over the years, we have also expanded our services to the Ethiopian, Russian/Eastern European and Liberian communities. As a refugee-based organization, SEAMAAC has helped to bring Asian and refugee interests and issues to the collective agendas of refugee resettlement, social services, employment and job training, health, educational and cultural agencies.
